How to fake 8 hours of sleep
I just heard a statistic that women these days are getting an average of FOUR hours of sleep each night. FOUR!?! As a working mom who also homeschools, I can definitely relate to not getting enough sleep (and after hearing that, I am feeling so extremely grateful for getting more than four hours on most nights).
When I'm tired, it definitely shows on my face (Can someone please tell people that it's not OK to say, "wow! you look so tired!" to others?). Putting effort into the way I look each day makes a such huge difference in the way I feel. I will admit that some days (much more so in this past year), I stay in my pajamas or sweatpants all day long, but I do feel better when I actually change into non-jersey clothes and spend five minutes on my makeup. It makes me feel more lively and energetic like I'm ready to take on whatever the day will bring my way. And let's face it- I can use all of the energy I can get with our busy swimsuit season quickly approaching.
Here's my five minute routine to fake eight hours of sleep!
(Always start with a clean and moisturized face).
1. Dew Skin tinted moisturizer.
I love this because it's lightweight and doesn't feel like I have a ton of makeup on, yet it still has excellent coverage. You can also layer it AND it has SPF for when the sun decides to come out and play again. Winning!
2. Skin Twin Creamy concealer.
This concealer glides on so smoothly. I use it under my eyes (especially when I stayed up all night working). It does't crease or look cake-y at all.
3. Think Big all-in-one mascara.
I have super thin, almost non-existent lashes. When I curl them and use two coats of this mascara, I truly look so much more awake.
4. Brilliant Brow gel.
The one thing I cannot leave the house without doing is my eyebrows. I stock this brow gel in my vanity drawer to make sure I never run out. It's embarrassing to say, but I need it in my life! In college and grad school, I used to get my brows waxed/threaded on a regular basis. One day, my roommate intervened and told me I wouldn't have any brows left if I kept it up. She made me grow them out and then she shaped them with tweezers. I never let anyone touch them ever again and only tweeze if necessary. Check out my IG story to see how I do my brows.
5. Cheeky clean cream blush.
When I use the Dew Skin, putting on some blush gives a little bit of definition and a lot of life to my tired face.
6. Beyond gloss.
I normally just use chapstick, but sometimes I like just a little bit of color (and a lot of shine), so I carry gloss in my purse. My favorite shades are Peony and Dahlia.
It's amazing how much of a difference five minutes can make! When I make time to do this, not only do I look more alive, but I feel more alive. If you follow me on Instagram, then you know that I switched to clean beauty products when I experienced fertility issues and also when my mom was diagnosed with breast cancer (and I had some scares myself- I've had 5 lumps removed). The chemicals in the makeup and beauty products I was using were definitely contributing to all of my health problems. Remember, what goes on your body, goes in your body.
